In chem lab, we make slime by crosslinking a liquid polymer with borax solution (that's right, the 20 mule team powdered soap additive available at supermarkets).

Make a 4% solution of PolyVinylAlcohol (PVA) (CH2ClOH) available from chem supply places. Dissolve 40g in 960mL of water, heat in beaker on medium temp hotplate until all the powder dissolves and solution is clear. Stir occaisionally to keep from sticking on bottom.

Let cool. Meanwhile make about a 4% (not that crucial) solution of borax and water.

Put cool PVA into a plastic cup (50mL or so). Use a dropper or Beral pipet to drop in borax solution a little at a time while stirring. gradually the mixture turns to slime. DOn't add too much borax or the mixture liquifies.

For a treat, dissolve some fluorocene dye in the borax solution to make it really look slimy.

good luck!

The best slime is made from Elmer's glue and borax. (Find borax in the laundry section at the grocery store.)

Put about five tablespoons of borax in a cup and cover it with water. Stir. Let it settle.

Mix the glue half and half with water.

Put about half a cup of the glue mix into an empty jar.
Stir the borax, and add two spoons of that mix.
Put the lid on the jar, and shake.
If too slimy, add more borax.
If too solid, add more glue.

Colour with food colour.

2 small packages each of sugar free lime jello and lemon jello mixed

Use two cups boiling water to dissolve the gelatin then add:

Mountain Dew two big bottles - cool in frige or on the counter or on the porch (if you live in a cold place where it will not freeze)

You can add gummy worms and gummy critters for effect

I made it for Halloween and the kids had a great time. I dressed them in large plastice trash bags with holes cut for arms and head and another bag for their hair or shower cap and put them in the yard to sling away.

Be sure kids are over 7 years old if you use the plastic bags
