My mom wants me to stay in town and go to a community college that's not that far out of my way. She's paying for my car insurance and buying me a used car. I'd be living in an apartment if I stayed (which is what I want to do. I wanna live by myself)

I kinda want to do that.

But I also want to meet new people. The town where I live is dull, there's never anything to do and all the people I know have the same problem. So if I stayed here I'd just be working and bored all the time.

I want to go to MTSU and live on campus and I'm getting enough scholarships and grants to pay for the first year (excluding books and stuff like that). But I'm afraid to go because I don't know anyone up there and it's scary to me.

I don't know what I should do. I really want to go to MTSU but I'm scared to leasve because I don't know anyone.

Please give me your opinions.(serious ones only please)

Going to college can be very intimidating and exciting, too. Good for you for moving on in your studies.

I have a suggestion for what it's worth:

Go to the community college for your first year. Take the general foundation courses (like English, science, etc.), then transfer.
You can save up money and go on to the big University.

You will meet all kinds of people from all over the country and the world at MTSU (maybe at your community college, too.) When students enter a new university, usually as freshmen, there are lots of activities that allow you to meet people. If you stay in a dorm, you will meet and live with new people.

Have you visited MTSU? A lot of colleges and universities have programs where you can go onto campus for a few days and follow current students around (shadowing). You can sit in classes and talk to the profs and check out the surroundings. You may want to consider that, too.

From your question and comments, you seem ready to go, but a little unsure of yourself. You are not alone. There are probably lots of other kids who are a bit unsure of going to a new place.
That's a part of the learning process.

Good luck.

Honey I was the same way trust me! I'm originally from Memphis, and I really wanted to leave the nest but stay in it as well. I got accepted to UT Knoxville and I was scared to death and I didn't know anyone, but when I look back that was the best thing!!! You start over when you're in a new place. If you were unpopular in high school, you can be the main thang on campus. If you were an average student in high school, you could be the best student you can be in college. If you go off 2 school, you learn how to be independent, learn about other cultures, and make brand new friends. My college buddies are still my friends to this day...

Community college is cheaper, and easier and you may even be unprepared for a university. I always agree to leaving the nest. I moved to Nashville, TN after graduated and I love it. Murfreesboro is a lovely city and you got Nashville right above it. It's always something to do. Visit MTSU if you haven't already and see if you like it. Then you can base everything on your tour. I wish u the best. You will enjoy yourself if you go OFF to school...

Not knowing anyone is only half the fun, you get a roommate and they can either your worst enemy or your very best friend.

Keep in mind that you can go to a community college for the first 2 years and then transfer to a 4 year university. It isn't all that bad of a decision. You save some money and kind of edge your way into college.
Here is the downside to that. The friends you make in college always come from your freshman year in the first month or so. Either you meet people and make friends that first month or you don't. If you transfer after 2 years at a communtiy college then you probably won't make that many new friends when your a junior as most students kind of stay with the people they meet from their freshman year in school.
Also people that are living i an apartment tend to have more bills then college students living in a dorm. You pay for cable, electricity and all that jaz... that and you gotta furnish that.
Being scared to do somthing is very rarely a valid excuse not to do somthing. College is college. nothing to be scared of really. For the most part people are cool.

I basically had to make the exact same decision - go to a community college nearby, or go a couple hours away to state college where I wouldn't know anybody. I moved away and have no regretted it. It's necessary in helping you to find yourself and meet new people.

-There's a link to a very helpful website that lets you search specific information about schools you are interested in. It helped me a lot when I was a senior in high school. You can also apply for numerous scholarships and student loans on the site, making it a extremely useful tool in the college decision. I would highly recommend checking it out.
