A few years ago, I would have said, " All hail Capital Punishment !" The logic was simple. " They are a threat to society! Kill them before they do any more damage! " followed by " What? Why the hell are we paying for these Rapists and Murders! We put more money into these guys than we do people who are trying to lead good lives! Throw them in a flaming pit! Since that's where they're going anyways!"

That was before I started to understand the importance of salvation. You see, Satan knows he's going to lose. So the only way he can hurt God is to cause as many of his children to burn with him. So, in effect, capital punishment can be considered an act that futhers Satan's goals. Since, while you're in life, you still have the chance to repent.

So there you have it. The first is the view of my cynic, the second is the view of my Christian. Decide for yourself.

I used to be all for it. But after witnessing a convincted killer being lethally injected on television I have been against it. I don't think it helps for our government to kill people, whether they are guilty or not. Seeing what his family went through. It doesn't make sense for the United States to kill its citizens in the name of justice. What is just about killing a man. That is not proper punishment. If we kill killers than we are no better than them. Edit - Catnip, I see your point but does being a murderer mean your family has to be punished too. I dont see why they must be punished as well. Makes no sense. What did they do? What if your pet cat killed someone's pet mouse? Should your cat be put to death? Should you be caused to suffer as well? What will that solve? 2 pet owners crying and 2 pets dead. How would that help?

it a bad thing! if you ever kill one innocent person,,,,,,and think about how now with dna every so often you hear of adeath row inmate being proved innocent and releashed, anyway, if you ever killed one innocent person,,,, that is as big of a crime as what the criminal did,,,,, are you then willing to be put on trial for murder? or just blow it off saying, well it wasnt me the jury did it? you simply cant give someone back their life!
then there is how it is not applied evenly/equally to all criminals in all states,,,,, blacks in america receive the death penalty more often then whites, that is why the federal government banned some southern states from even having a death penalty for a number of years,,, till they could correct that problem,
this is america, i dont think anyone should be put to death, but if they are, i dont think the same crime should get a life sentence in one state and death in another!

I believe it is a bad thing. In my opinion, putting somebody behind bars for life, without absolutely any chance ever of parole, is far more punishment than putting him/her to death. Yes, if "we" execute a criminal, then that person is dead and some people believe in the biblical adage, "an eye for an eye."

But that person who's been put to death is no longer suffering. They do not have years to sit in prison, perhaps ruminating on the horrible thing(s) they did. Living one's life out in prison, without ever being able to walk free again in the fresh air, is far worse punishment than execution.

It's condemnable. We refer to murder as a crime, and yet we don't hesitate to use it in order to carry out "justice". The memory of the innocent victims become perverted, as we try to make ourselves feel better through the deaths of the responsible parties. But that's not justice, that's revenge.

YES, but only for creeps who hurt kids in any way. Also, my feelings about this are very strong. Child molesters and child killers should be publicly executed in a very demeaning and painful way. I do believe this would act as a deterent to future scum.

Good and completely necessary. To bad they don't use it enough though.

Why?

1. It prevents other people from commiting certain crimes.
2. Because those who commit crimes that warrent the Death Penalty do not belong in our society.

Its not good, not bad. Its great. There needs to be harsh consequences for committing acts of evil.

And no, killing a killer does not make us as bad as them, because the killer has done something to someone who didn't deserve it, but killing a killer is justified.
