Because in order to be a member of good standing in a Religion you have to be moral and follow God's rules. Liberals are neither moral, nor rule followers.

It's not just liberals that have problem with these things. It's also the swing voters as the last election proved. I'm a lifelong conservative and would never vote for a democrat, but not for reasons of morality or religion. I think people are threatened by religion more so nowadays much the same way that conservatives feel threatened by social programs, taxation and gun control. The bottom line is people do want more freedom from institutions not less. Liberals just happen to think religion is so bad because of the amount of hypocrisy that comes from the churches. On that same note I cant stand liberals and their social programs because those have clearly not worked. Maybe it's the overwhelming size of the religious right compared to the small groups of libs that congregate in coffee shops and trust funder flats, they feel like David against Goliath so they are always going for the throat.Excellent question by the way.

I can only answer for myself, but I don't have any problem with religion. Claiming oneself to have all the morals and values of any one religion, but never demonstrating, or acting on them, that, is a problem.
Living the words, "love thy neighbor as thyself" includes the basic foundation for most beliefs, and our Constitution.
Many talk the talk. Few walk the walk.

I don't think you could say "all" liberals have a problem with religion and morality. Alot of them are religeous themselves. I think that they see things similar to the way Jesus saw them. Jesus was the type to never force his beliefs onto anyone! God gave man free will! And so also should the government. Government and religion have nothing in common. A true believer in God knows that the governments have been the enemy of Christianity sense ancient times. Some governments have forced religions onto people. Others have done away with religion entirely. Both of these types of government are very wrong! We all should have the freedom to believe what we want to without the governments telling us how to believe. Christianity is all about free will! God would not like for someone to be forced to serve him. That defeats the purpose. The mission is all about loving God on your own, without being forced or pressured to do so. I think this is what liberals are opposed to. On the other hand; There is absolutely nothing wrong with having the 10 commandments posted in a court house or something like that. That is not what I would call "forcing" religion on people. In fact that is rather rediculous. If you cannot post the 10 commandments on the wall then they should also take down all of Darwin's garbage from the school buildings. If your gonna teach Darwin's theory then you should teach creation as well! It should be an "elective" course that students can take and never mandatory. Myself I think the theory of evolution is beond false! Its a rediculous theory! Yet when I was in school I had to learn about it. But it never got the best of me. Its very nice to know that none of my ancestors where monkeys. But people have the right to believe what they want.

Hmm, funny. I consider myself to be a very religious person, yet also very left-winged. Have any of you pig-headed conservatives ever stopped to think that maybe a person can be BOTH?

I have no problem with religion or morality (these are two seperate things).
I am a devout Wiccan, after all.
I believe very strongly in the seperation of church and state. I don't believe that we should make laws solely because it's in the BIble. I don't believe that teachers should lead their classes in Christian prayer. I don't believe that the ten commandments should be posted in the courtroom. This is because, in this great country, we are all free to worship our own religion, and are not forced to worship any religion other than our own.

We DON'T have a problem with religion OR morality. We just have a problem with some people's attempts to impose their own versions of them onto others.

It's not a problem with religion or morality themselves, it's a problem with them being imposed. Everyone has their own definition of what is moral, but it happens to be that our current dominant moral standards are those set forth by dominant organized religions -specifically Christianity. But something being popular doesn't also make it the only version of what is right. And it seems that many of the more vocal members of these faiths can't understand that fact.
