It takes 10,000 mREM of radiation to show a change in the blood. We get about 300 mREM per year, 350 if you live at high altitudes or fly a lot, just by living. This radiation comes from the sun, electronics, etc. Everything is radioactive to some degree.

Unless you have been exposed to high concentrations of radiation, it won't ever affect the body. Radiation can be detected before 10,000 mREM, but it won't harm you until it reaches that point.
