Apartments are units within a single structure. Similar to "compartments", they are used to house a single person or group of people.

The only difference is that condos can be individually owned. Each owner has a different deed, and they have the right to sell, have a mortgage as a lien and even share ownership.

Many families or persons living in the same building but "apart" from each other.
Tenement is ten apartments in one building.
