At my home, it is religous. Jesus is the reason for the season.

It was never religious. In fact, in the 17th century, in England and some United States colonies, the celebrating of Christmas was banned because it was nonreligious.

All ideas that Christmas is based on are, in fact, not based on the Bible. If it were religious, it would be based on the Bible.

Hence, it is purely commercial. Why do you think Christmas things come in right after Halloween even though Christmas is quite a while away from Halloween? To get people spending early or to get people religious early? ;)

It's becoming more and more commercial each year, especially as the christmas things are coming out i shops earlier each year. I went into one shop at the end of august this year and they had already started putting a selection of christmas items on the shelves and they were right next to the summer items (picnic sets, etc).

Its all about money. I hate the fact that christmas decorations are in the shops at the end of august. Whats that all about? I dont want to worry about it till beginning of december.
Christmas has lost its true meaning, but it is still a joyous occasion for people that dont have religious beliefs.

Its both for different people. A lot of people don't care about the religious meanings and only celebrate the commercial. Others, however, do celebrate the religious holiday.

It's been hijacked by capitalism, to be honest... it's about spending hundreds of pounds/dollars/whatever and being selfish rather than the love and sharing that were central to JC's preachings.

The whole idea of Christmas being commercial makes a mockery of Jesus' rather socialist beliefs.

In our family it is still a religious celebration, the True Meaning is still alive, but we all still enjoy the giving and receiving.
