I have a HP OmniBook XE3, I am not sure if its a 100 or 133 fsb, and I am not sure how to determine that. In my research I find that I need 32x64-100MHz PC100 144pin ram. I can buy this ram for a variety of prices. The cheapest of which claims to be for a mac power book, I can pay more to get an HP compatible stick of ram. The real question is is there any difference, wouldnt every 32x64-100MHz PC100 144 pin be exactly the same or do I need to pay extra?

I looked up your system at http://www.coastmemory.com/

Here are the two systems:
System Specs
Type of system: Laptops
Bus Architecture: PC Card (PCMCIA)
System Memory
Standard Memory: 128 MB (removable)
Maximum Memory: 512 MB
Maximum Expansion: 2 sockets
Comments: PC100 SDRAM SODIMMs

System Specs
Type of system: Laptops
Bus Architecture: PC Card (PCMCIA)
Comments: 133MHz FSB, Intel 830MG Chipset.
System Memory

Maximum Memory: 1.0 GB
Maximum Expansion: 2 sockets
Comments: PC133 SDRAM SODIMMs

If you checked the markings can can't tell between the 100MHz and 133MHZ, you might open up the memory cover and look to see what is already inside. These are often marked.

This company offers a guarantee that it will work. So if you make an error, just call them and get the RMA number. They currently sell the 512MB stick for $95.00. 1.800.4MEMORY

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Well, since no one directly answered your question, let me do it...

Yes, every 32x64-100MHz PC100 144 pin is exactly the same. Quality differs between manufacturers though. Stick with name brand products. Dont go for the cheaper made in .... versions.

Now addressing the economics of the issue - is it worth it?

I wouldn't suggest upgrading your computer since the money will be much better spent buying a new computer/laptop. The ram for your computer is getting more and more expensive to buy because no one is making them and there is a shrinking supply.

It depends.

http://www.crucial.com can perform a full scan and tell you exactly what RAM you can have, and even garentees accurate results.
