Where can autopsy information be requested?

Where can autopsy information be requested? The reason for asking is my 81 year old Grandmother has never found out the reason for her father's death in 1954. He died on a fishing trip in Canada and his wife was never able to obtain a death certificate, autopsy report, or even find out exactly how he died.

I don't think it for the public but if you need to see one then try the Justice of peace office for starters

The results of an autopsy are considered protected health information by Federal law and may be read only by the 'relative of record' meaning that certain but not all relatives may request a copy. The specific cause of death is a matter of public record as a death certificate is not protected to the extent as the results of an autopsy.

I dont know, either the hospital where they performed the autopsy or the courthouse. They keep death certificates at the courthouse. What would you want to know, cause of death? If that so it would be on the death certificate.
