I can't tell and a lot of the troops can't tell but the iraq's can pick them out in a heart beat. They've been at it for 1000s years.

The difference between Sunni and Shite is based on their beliefs of who should be allowed to lead - one believes that only a true blood descenent of Muhammad are acceptable as leaders, while the other believes that the leader should be "determined by a process similar to election". *there are a few other such beliefs that are different - however this is the biggie.
How wonderful it would be if they just all worshiped Allah in their own way and allowed everyone else to do the same.

If a person is crying due to a shiite bombing, he is a sunni. If a person is crying due to a sunni bombing, he is a shiite !
Quite frankly, this sunni shiite division has completely baffled me. After all, they worship the same God, they have the same holiest city (Mecca), they speak the same language, both believe in Prophet and Quran. But they hate each other so much that they are happy to commit suicide to kill the other. Honestly, does not make any sense to me.

Sunni's generally mind their own business.
Shiah's are usually out screaming something in the streets.
Other than that, you would just have to talk to them personally to find out their views.

Simply, by the name of the person. When militant gunmen are looking for victims, they always check the person's identity papers to determine which sect they belong to.

I'm sure I wouldn't be able to tell.
Maybe better if nobody could.
Maybe all immigrants should just say they are Italian. Wherever they are from. Less baggage of any kind I think.
