I already play one, but to pick up another would you recommend lessons, playing by ear, etc.?

I played sax for about 5 years, and then I got interested in the guitar. I picked everything up by ear i could, and got a couple of books/mags to help me expand. But the best thing about a guitar/piano/etc, is that you have so many ways to play(first chords/harmony/lead) that it is truly amazing how many different ways to play the same song. I love playing guitar just for that! You can start off with a bass line, then the chords, then lead. Ear is the best way, if you can.

Garage sales. You can find lots of things in those, and musical instruments are a few.
