Well, it really wasn't a toy - but my daughter loved to hear me playing the piano. I can remember when I would start to play, she would actually sit up and begin her own little dance and song. When I would stop, she would cry. I picked up on this and proved several points about children and their need to hear and enjoy music and sounds. I bought her a piano and as she grew, would place her on the floor, and she would go at it! Eventually, she got to the point, she could play what she heard me play - NO LIE! She was about 1 then. Soft, fluffy animals was her next best toy.

Well my daughter didn't like her kind of toys when she was that age and still doesn't like toys for her age. She likes her 2 yr old brother's toys. I would get a toy that squeaks and has crinkly noises like a playschool elephant has a old fashioned telephone turner, a mirror, a teething star, crinkly ear and rattle, and has a nose that is a ball that shakes and rolls. My daughter likes that, plus they love books and rattles

Plastic containers and kitchen utencils that when you hit them made a noise...tins to! Talk about cheap and recycling! I bought all kinds of toys and she loved those the best. The next best things were the link rings that she could put in her mouth! She is 9 mos now and still loves the kitchen utencils.

Simple toys. Things that aren't too complicated and make noise and light up and all that. Simple is better. Blocks, rattles, crinkle toys, etc. are really what's best.

I just bought my 1 year old niece a small plastic egg with seeds or something in it. She LOVED it, she was shaking it and smiling.

It cost 1.50 I think.
