I'm going to be moving into a dorm in the next few months and was wondering what is absolutely needed and what makes it "my" dorm?

Well just about every dorm set up is different. But some have similiaritys.
For the most part they are very small rooms! They usually aren't high quality or anything either. Just about room for your bed and your clothes and that's about it. Here are some of my suggestions for dorm rooms.
1. Bring your computer.. lots of dorms have ethernet connections right to the room. It helps for writing your papers and doing homework/email
2. Bring or make a loft for your bed! you need every inch of space they give you and having a loft to get your bed up in the air really really helps. I put a futon under mine and it worked out great!
3. Get one of those small refrigerator units. It really helps to have somthing to keep drinks/beer cold in. Make sure you get a quality one!
4. Bring decorations. Decorate your room however you want. It's fun and makes it more of an at home feeling. People love to come into your dorm rooms if you have them looking cool.
5. Get a marker board to hang on the outside of your door. People love to leave you messages when you are out to class.
6. Bring hangers! Just aboaut every dorm you have has a nice bar to hang your clothes on and they never give you enough hangers.
7. Bring lots of plastic containers to store misc stuff in. I had like 8 of them and just stacked them all up under my clothes.
8. Bring like christmas lights or some sort of lighting for at night when you don't feel like turning your regular lights on. Plus it's good for party atmosphere.
Lastly, If your going to have a roomate be prepared to have to make some compromises. Remember, that you probably arn't going to be the same as your roomate. They may be drastically different than you and may want your dorm room to look different. Hopefully you have the same sort of music tastes. Make an honest effort to get along with this person.

you need a comforter (regular twin size, or if you will be moving off campus soon, buy a queen..it will junt hang longer on the twin bed), towls, a fiberbed (or egg crate), Twin XL sheets (normally), plently of storage, including under bed bins (it is essential to be very organized at college), flip flops to take a shower with, as well as a shower caddy. Visit www.bedbathandbeyond.com and click shop for colelge to read their college dorm list. you can also search for other lists online to help you gather all of the essentials.

to make it "your" dorm, you need to add your own personal touch, such as a color scheme or something that you think relates to you alot, maybe pictures from home or something along those lines.

A mini fridge, a microwave(if your school allows it. Some don't), lots of towels and washcloths, bedding, extra sheets, etc. . . If you google "college dorm checklist" or something similar, you will find an entire list of things that you should consider taking. Bed Bath & Beyond had a really comprehensive list last year; try their website first.

The little fridge is a must. Also egg crates under your sheets, really helps make the dorm bed much more comfortable.
