Charcoal is dark gray. It definitely isn't black.
I think it could be a good investment, depending on what you'd be wearing it for. If you wear a suit at work, go ahead and get it because you'll wear it a lot. If not, I'd go with something less expensive, since you won't be wearing it all that often.

Hi,
There are a few aspects to your questions. I will address each indivually.
Color:
As suits go, charcoal is a fine choice which is accepted at almost all companies. A few companies still require the black/navy blue; however, they are by far the minority. There is nothing particularly wrong with charcoal, but you do want to take your own complexion into consideration. Just make sure the suit color goes well with your natural skin and hair colors.
Style
While charcoal will stay acceptable for years, definitely get a traditional styled suit. When you only have a few suits it is far better to get a simple single breasted suit.
Investment
A good suit is a great investment. It is extremely handy when interviewing, meeting new clients, or attending semi-formal events. Dressing well gives others the impression that you are successful which can often open doors for you.. However, this must be weighed against the cost of the Armani suit. There are some lesser known designers who also make quality suits at a fraction of the cost. You may be able to obtain the same result with one of the suits.
In closing, you sound like a smart person who thinks through your decisions. I hope I have presented both sides of the issue, and given you something to think about. Don't forget that sometimes, the best investment is investing in yourself. If owning an Armani makes you feel successful, then the purchase is well worth it regardless of any potential return.

It's a great investment! Charcoal is almost black, but not quite. It's really good because Armani is high quality, lasts a long time, and won't go out of fashion! Also, a suit like that (with neutral colors) will be able to mix and match with different shirts and pants, and it can be easily changed from casual to formal. More men should buy a suit like yours.

As far as investment goes....no. There is no appreciation in the value of the suit as it ages, only depreciation. lol
Just messin with you.
Is it a good "buy"? Sure it is, if you can afford it. But, don't let that be your only suit with a bunch of different shirts under it. People will notice.
