Standard avi will open with Windows Media Player on windows or quicktime on mac. Exceptions may be if it uses a non-standard codec a common one being divx for that visit divx.com or mail it to me and I will take a look at it.

all my .avi videos open with RealPlayer
none of them open with Windows Media player (on my system)

If you can't open it with your windows media program then go to www.download.com and download a codec package, do a search for AC3 filter and download/run it, then try again with your media program, should do the trick!
