No you are not a coward. But make sure you wish the friend a Happy Birthday.

No, you would not be a coward, but why miss out on your good friend's celebration? It's more important to be there for the friend than the discomfort you will feel being around your ex and his gf. Sometimes we have to pretend that an uncomfortable situation does not bother us just to get through the event. I think you will feel better if you do go. Get dressed up and smile when you walk in and see your friend. Later, I hope you can look back on this difficult situation and be proud that you faced it rather than avoiding it. Hope this helps.

Yah you are a coward.
I'm 27, and I just ran away from the girl my ex left me for
So I'm a coward too.
If you go, make sure you look good, stay awhile, and then leave and hit the clubs with a coupla good friends that you have enlisted to help you through

I think she would understand your situation, but I'm not sure, since I don't know your friend.
Edit: Otherwise, you can go to the party, and just ignore your ex. Even flirt in front of him if you like with other guys. That would be cool! It also depends on how long ago was the breakup. Don't worry though, time does heal things.

listen you aren't a coward for not going, but if i were you i would get jazzy and pretty look good as you can. go have a ball act like nothing is wrong be polite and speak when he introduce you and move on. let him see that you are cool without him. And looking good to. what about the good friend? is this good friend really a good friend if you don't go to the party? what would be your excuse for not going?

no that doesn't make you a coward because i wouldn't want to see my boyfriend right away either but you can't let him keep him from celebrating your friends birthday if your ex-boyfriend does talk to you don't make it to awkward and let him know you would like to become friends

No it makes you weary of confrontation, nothing wrong with that!
But why can't you just go for a few then leave. Just stay long enough to say Happy B-Day and give a gift and then go?

No offense...but yes you are. Just go...she/he will be sad that you didn't go to his/her birthday party to avoid someone that is your EX. (Notice as how I put EX in cap locks....EX means you guys broke up)...time to move on :D
