First of all, I remind myself that at some point in time, the bad experience will be behind me. Then I imagine myself in the future and how I want it to end, and consider what actions I can take within the present moment so that when I do look back on it, I will at least have maintained my dignity.
To cope with overwhelming emotions, I especially find it helpful to listen to music that reflects and draws out those emotions, and I sing along as loud as I can -- for me it is an excellent release. My son is more physical than vocal, so his release is through physical activity -- usually jogging around the neighborhood or shooting hoops. If you have a boxing bag, that is another excellent way to channel some aggressive and angry feelings.
I also like to journal about the situation and my feelings, because it sometimes helps me look at things from a slightly different perspective. Venting to a friend that's a good listener always helps, and if there is someone I feel I can turn to for constructive advice, I will do that as well.

Sometimes in a situation like that it can be overwhelming. First, I usually call a friend and run it by them. What are friends for?? Then, I go exercise. I go to the gym and work out for a long time or go for a long walk. That always helps to clear my thoughts and then the thing that was bothering me is not quite such a big deal. Hope this helps you.

I find a friend to talk to about it. However, if something is bothering me about someone, I go to that person and tell him/her that I need to talk. Journaling is a good idea as well. Without sending them, I have written letters to people who have upset me. That helps. Just don't keepp everything bottled up inside--you'll only make yourself sick.
I'm a caring listener if you'd like to talk.

You have to find a way to a solution or at least make progress to resolve. It also helps to talk to someone. If there is no one you want to share whatever it is with, then write it down in a journal. Whatever, you do you have to release the negative energy.
