If you've already been to hospital, I take it you had an X-ray and no fractures were found.
If so, you're left with soft tissue swelling and bruising, painful in the extreme, but it will improve over a couple of days.
The best thing to do for now is to take some anti-inflammatories and painkillers for the next three or four days at least, and soak your hand for NO MORE THAN 5 minutes in ice water (a bowl of cold water with about a dozen ice cubes crushed into it). If you leave your hand in the ice water for longer than that, it will cause your blood vessels to dilate, and will ADD to the swelling instead of minimising it.
Do that every hour for the first day, then alternate the ice water with tepid water on the second and third days. After that, switch to warm water bathing only, as frequently as you like.
After soaking it, wrap your hand lightly in a crepe bandage, fingers wrapped together and thumb exposed, to rest it. If you can, put a rolled up bandage or ball of cotton wool in your hand before bandaging, so that your fingers are semi-flexed.
Keep your hand elevated higher than your head for most of the time over the first day or two, try sleeping with it on a couple of pillows.
The first 24-48 hours will be sore, but it should feel a lot better after that, if not before.
The main priority then is to get the fingers, thumb and wrist moving normally, so that they don't get stiff.
Good luck, it sounds like you were lucky not to have broken a bone or snapped a tendon! I hope you feel better soon.

Hi well have you swelling, bruising and alot off pain ? If so you may possibly fractured your metacarpals(fingers). What did the hospital say when you went up there ? Apply a cold compress not directly on the skin thou, keep the arm elevated up high as you can,try to rest the hand, moving the fingers can make the fracture or fractures worse, also check for circulation makiing sure the fingers or hand is still pink and not white or blue, and also that you still having sensation. If you are still experiencing problems go to your hospital and get seen by one off the Drs,they will x-ray the whole hanh including the fingers and take it from there, all depending how bad you have fractured your fingers, you will either need surgery or a cast.Email me if you want further advice.Good Luck

I'm wondering what advice the Hospital staff gave you?
Didn't they want to Xray your hand to see if any bones were broken?
Or were you able to move your fingers? (If they were broken, you couldn't do that)
Soak you hand in cold cold water, it might help with the inflammation. Take a pain killer if you have one.
Be careful you don't bang it around for a few days to aggrevate it. (wear a sling and put your hand in it, to rest it, and so the blood doesn't fall down to your fingers & aggrevate it.)
These injuries can be a pain!
I flipped over the handlebars of my bike a few years ago, and landed on my right knee --- I think I fractured it --- I was in agony!
To this day I can't remember how I got home, but when I did, I took these special vitamins I have ... I took megadoses for a few days ... then started taking less ... in a week I was healed!
Do what you can to get relief ... and if U still have probs in a couple of days ... email me for more advice.

Ouch that really hurts if you think no bone is broken then use ice in a clean cloth to keep the swelling down and take some panadol not asprin. If you can move the fingers a little then you probably did'nt break any bones/use an antiseptic to clean it if it is an open wound bandage it up and if no better in a few days see the doctor.

I presume that you got the necessary help and advice at the hospital. To alleviate continuing discomfort may i suggest taking a safe painkiller like panadol. Try sleeping with you damaged hand outside the covers.
Do NOT drink a lot. Alcohol can aggravate residual shock that we can suffer after even minor trauma.
I'm just repeating what my GP advised when a family member had a similar experience.
Here's wishing you a good night's sleep

Go to your nearest A&E hospital straight away. If you cannot go now, place your hand in iced water for a while to help bring down any swelling, take some pain killers and swaddle your hand and put it in a sling to prevent further injury. If you can get any sleep try to keep your hand up (to help reduce swelling) and go to the hospital in the morning for xrays etc. I did something similar years ago and know how very painful it is so I do hope you can get some help soon. Good Luck

if your worried go to the nearest hospital, i shut my hand in a car door and although it wasnt broken it was painful, if it is broke they cant do anything for your finger apart from put it in a splint, if its still bad tomorrow then get it checked, until then soak it in cool water to take away inflamation and take paracetamol and ibuprofen for the pain, they work wonders together!
good luck and dont worry

Matt's hand exchange into broken after his Backlash 2009 adventure along with his brother Jeff( i think of he did wreck his hand) i'm guessing that the broken hand is somewhat exaggerated. Matt has probbably healed very nearly totally as would be. i think of it exchange right into a mix of the two, as administration felt his gimmick would have grown stale. i in my opinion enjoyed his different heel gimmick extra effective, yet oh properly.....

can you make a fist?
can you use your thumb on your injured hand to count your fingers one by one, touching each finger with the thumb?
has it swelled up?
do you have bruising that has appeared very quickly?
if you answer no to the first two or yes to the last two then go see a doctor for possible x-ray
