this question isnt intended to hurt anyone...but i am curious as to how many of u ladies have smoked (cigarettes, cigars, weed) or drank alcohol while pregnant. How did it make u guys feel(during & after) ? did the fathers agree or disagree? i am not a "smoker" but i do smoke black and milds every now and then...i had one the other day and figured that it shouldnt hurt my baby, as i dont do it very often. i also wanted to know if a very limited amount of alcohol was okay to consume while preggers. thanks for the insight!

I would say its better to NOT smoke at all during your pregnancy. Im 33 weeks pregnant and I smoked before I found out I was pregnant... it was not easy AT ALL but I quite smoking for the health of my baby. As far as the drinking goes... I once in awhile will have a couple of sips of my hubbys beer, but other than that I stay away from the alcohol. Ive heard that having a glass of wine or a wine cooler once in awhile does no harm. Just use your best judgment and if anything, speak to your doctor.

No I haven't done any of that, But lots of women do smOKe while they are pregnant, and drink. I have even heard that if you are a heavy drinker that instead of cutting it out all together, you can drink a glass of wine every few days, and it is ok for you and the baby. I don't know if that is true or not. Some women even start smoking when they find out that they are pregnant, because it can cause a low birth weight, and they are scared of having big babies. I think if you can quit smoking while you are pregnant, then you should not smoke any more, it is no different smoking while you are pregnant then smoking while holding your child or pushing them in a stroller.
Its your body it's your baby, if you want to make stupid decisions that could harm your child, then you can.
But I don't think that one black and mild will hurt your baby. As for drinking, only a lot of alcohol will hurt your baby, but why take the risk?

Well, beings how I was diagnosed with Endometriosis and have had multiple cyst on my ovaries and was told at a very young age that I would not be able to have my own children I wouldn't take a chance of harming my baby!!!! Although with all of my problems God blessed me with a beautiful baby girl!!!! My whole pregnancy I was scared to death of loosing her!!! I couldn't imagine even thinking about even smoking a cigarette and Yes, I do smoke. Before I got pregnant I smoked a little over half a pack of cigarettes a day and I quit instantly. The whole time I was pregnant I NEVER smoked ONE cigarette. So if I were you I wouldn't take a chance. And this is a question to ask your-self. Would you fill up a baby bottle with alcohol and give it to your new born baby or light a cigarette and blow the smoke directly in the baby's face? Because that's exactly what people are doing when their are pregnant. Every thing that you consume goes directly to the baby through the umbilical cord. Good luck and hope that I have helped make it reality!!!

I cant say I drank ever, I like an occasional cocktail but know I am not supposed to, I guess if you have ever had to experience problems with an infant prior to birth and being in and out of the hospitol for freaquent exams, it is a huge reality check that time is all you have and inutero time and consquences can be limted and perminate.
Not preaching against you. I did smoke with my last two the first month and half before I was able to quit. Bt I got there and so can you.
Just imagine, a perfect little cell, building everyday, developing into something great, and one day during formation it is poisoned by an external intruder, alcohol, smoke, medication, drugs, this can effect a baby, that is growing from the start of almost nothing.
If you really feel strong, ask your doctor, I am crazy about gin, and menthol cig's. love love love them, but not around my kids, or while pregnant.
one thing about being a mother, is making a list of priority.

I smoked while pregnant and if I could I would go back and do it all over again I would not smoke. So I am not going to tell you not to smoke because I did but the drinking I would say defiantly not.

I did do either. I knew a kid in school that had fetal alcohol syndrome and it was nasty. Didn't want to risk it with mine. Didn't smoke just because I never have and the doctor told me not to. No drugs either.... too many risks and I want my baby to be healthy.

every now and then i will have part of a beer. i figured that since i drank up until i found out i was pregnant, which i would several weeks along when i found out, that part of a beer wasn't going to do anymore damage. one drink or one smoke isn't going to permanently damage your child.
