witnesses tend to be the best way to coroborate verbal abuse
But if this is the only type of abuse, do not cry and boohoo
just leave!!
You always have the option of leaving!!!

You can record any conversation in your own home, but the laws vary.
You can hide a camcorder in the room where you are most likely to be abused (tourists did that to catch hotel theives).
Better yet, tiny pinhole cameras hooked up to a VCR. Not only does it record the voice-it records the people!
Radio Shack and Wal-Mart sell home security sets you could use and hook up to a VCR. That would give you the proof you can use in court and to file a police report.
Voice recording generally applies to telephone conversations. You can't record a phone conversation without the other persons consent or you have a recorder that beeps every 10 seconds or so unless you are getting prank or harrassing calls then you can record the calls with any recorder hooked up to the phone until you can get enough evidence to go to the police.
Check with your local police or a lawyer.
Its harder for men than women to claim abuse of any kind, but the recordings may help.
There is no such thing as a lie detector. It is subject to human interpretation of the results.
Oh ! Don't forget to hide the cameras if you use that option and make sure they have a clear view of the room.

Voice recording is legal in some states but not in all. Find out about your state. The best way to prove this is to keep notes of every incident. Notes are very important in all domestic cases. Abuse is abuse no matter how you look at it or how great or small. Life can be hard enough all by itself. You need to remove yourself from that sitution as soon as possible. You may believe that you can't do it but trust me you can! I know because I was in a abusive relationship for almost 6 years and i didn't leave sooner because my abuser made me feel like I couldn't . Like I couldn't make it without him. Guess what? It took alot of courage and a few Protection from Abuse Orders but I did it and I never looked back. That was 3 years ago. I know you can do this. In the meantime get that notebook started and see if anyone that has witnessed the abuse would be willing to write a paper for you stating what they saw or what happened. Notes go a long way when it comes to court proceedings. Best of luck to you! Remember, you CAN do this and when you do, keep yourself surronded by only positive things and people in your life. Feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss this matter in more detail.

Recorded voice is legal. During our domestic violence class we were shown a voice recording found on a 3 yr. old childs tape recorder the night that his daddy killed mommy after they got into a verbal arguement. Its all on tape. It was how daddy got charged with domestic violence assault, and intent to commit murder, and murder in the 2nd degree. Just make sure you don't provoke the arguement. Then you are going to look stupid when that tape goes to court. Lie detectors are only 40% reliable anyways, and not really worth the time or the money. And verbal abuse will eventually turn into something more. With domestic violence it always gets worse with time.

Leave. Don't sit around your house thinking about how you can get back at your wife.
