I have a Potterton (Powermax) 155x and after being turned off for the summer (about 3 months) it refuses to do anything. When I turn it on the fan starts then a few seconds later the red light comes on indicating a fault. Any ideas on how to proceed?

It is most probably a siezed pump causing your problem. This often happens when a boiler hasn't been used for a while. The pump has a cast iron casing, and this is apt to cause rust on the impellor. If you can manage it try taking the centre bolt off the pump and turn the impellor by hand. I don't know what type of pump you have, but that will cure the problem.
