Never was a big fan of the theories that homosexuality was a psychological disorder but somehow I guess for you its kinda true.
In your childhood your father was absent or did not show you enough love; now as time has passed you miss him and hold a strong desire for a male presence in your life, you desire the warmth strength and security but not the sex.
I would advise you to speak to a therapist as I sense you have lifelong issues you have never confronted.
By the way to everyone else I do not believe that your upbringing can make you gay I just believe it plays a factor I still believe that your sexuality is a choice not a directive.

Mmm how very Freudian! I don't think there is anything wrong with that, man hugs are very nice but then so are girly hugs. You may find that once you are in that situation you will be interested in more than just hugs...who knows? I get urges to hold a woman all night too so I do see where you are coming from...but then again I probably want to do more than just hug so it may be a bit different.
But good luck I hope you find your man hug soon.

I think that's a great idea. Why don't you try to post it on Craigslist or whatever internet forum you have out there in England for gay men? If you don't consider yourself gay but just curious you should know that lots other men like you post on those sites. And if you do consider yourself gay Yahoo answers is international so you are more likely to meet somebody through a more local forum.
You deserve the warmth and affection you are seeking. Believe in your desire, visualize it coming true in a positive way and it will come true.

I can't be 'the one' but I understand how you feel. We all need affection & comfort, not just sex. I imagine that in your job you can't really have meaningful connection with your patients as they are unable to maintain a relationship. You need someone to communicate with & to share with & I hope you find him. I like your last point - sharing a companionable silence is so under-rated.

A nice thought, perhaps.
But this is not really the right place for this request.
There must be other forums (forii??) on the interweb for this kind of request.

Why don't you just get into bed with one of the residents, they might like the company too!
