I just recently went through the same dilemma, I believe that if you want to go into health care but not the gore Health care management is amazing. I have been preparing for a pre-med schooling degree, and from experience of those around me if you cant deal with the nursing home gore then Health care management is probably for you. There is also the possibility that you don't necessarily have to work in a nursing home, maybe a hospital? I hope this helped, yet overall it is a huge decision to make for you. Good Luck!

You say you love the healthcare field.....what is it you love? I have a feeling that you are driven to be a caretaker.....and directly help patients. If i am right, then i don't believe that you would be happy in the management side of healthcare. Remember, the majority of healthcare institutions are owned by major companies with multiple facilities. Conventional wisdom says that healthcare management people are cold, uncaring and calculating.....all in the name of the dollar. Nursing home nursing is, in fact, very dificult. Why not consider the many other facets of nursing......i bet that would work for u.

This will be a good move. You will still have a chance to help others in this profession but not have to deal with the physical care. A degree in business management would be a good start because if you wanted to supervise any type of nursing activity you would need to have a bachelor of science in nursing or a masters degree. Good luck.

Nurses don't only work in nursing homes. They work in hospitals, private doctors offices, school nurses, clinics, home care, paralegals in law offices specializing in malpractice, etc. You could get a BSN, MSN or whatever and get into teaching, management at big corporate offices (at one point, I worked in the corporate offices of a large nursing home company and the last depatment I was in was made up of mostly nurses). You could go with the health care management degree. Or you could get into so many other areas outside of nursing. From what I've noticed though, if you truly want to make a difference in patient lives, you don't really want an office job.

Sounds like a wonderful idea. You seem to really care about the health and welfare of our older generation. I think you would make a great Director in the health care field. It's people like you who can make a difference. Keep up the good work and thanks for caring.

That's good, but you could also try occupational therapy, or physical therapy....both jobs work in many places besides nursing homes, and pay very well also
