Ah Fred, it wasn't so long ago when you suggested that the Addicks opening fixture against the Hammers was a 6 pointer. I scoffed at it then, but it appears that you had some premonition.
The Addicks need to convert home games into wins to stay up, just like Fulham did last season, it's as simple as that.

Stop playing Amdy Faye - Dowie spent 2 million on a guy who'd failed to play one decent game at Newcastle. Amazingly he's been just as poor for Charlton. Great business from Glen Roeder although not as good as getting 3 and a half mil for Boumsong. Don't know all that went on with Dowie but buying Faye was almost worth the sack by itself.
Stop playing 4-5-1. Apart from being negative and awful to watch they don't do it well and carry very little goal threat. Shake it up by playing two men up front - attack a little, get the crowd gee-d up and give them an excuse to be the 12th man for the team.
Still hopeless as Charlton are there are a lot of poor teams around this year - they might escape because the quality at the bottom's so low. Probably their only chance really.

Well, they could re-hire Iain Dowie for a start - and sack the Dennis Taylor lookalike they've installed in his place! Charlton had been playing much better of late before Dowie's dismissal, and I thought he'd do a decent job of steering Charlton to their usual mid-table mediocrity this season. He seems to be able to gee up his players and get the passion going.
Right now, they're playing with a complete lack of self-belief - but playing a 4-5-1, getting men behind the ball and letting the marvellous Darren Bent do the bulk of the work for a few weeks and (hopefully) scrapping their way out of the bottom three would be a start. After that, who knows?

Charlton Athletic must now start winning matches consistently & move up the Premiership table before Christmas. in the past, any team which has rooted to the bottom of the Premiership at Christmas has been relegated to the League Championship. only West Bromwich Albion managed to defy the odds to survive in the Premiership after being rooted to the bottom of the Premiership table at Christmas two seasons ago.

this is a very tough season for the addicks...as it will be for watford & sheff utd...the only difference is that the latter teams were expected to be down there...i think charltons problem is, wot other teams can u really see being dragged into a relegation scrap...possibly only middlesbrough from wot ive seen of the teams so far...apart from the inevitability of the top 4 being the usual 4, the rest of the teams seem very equal...then u have watford, sheff utd & charlton...it dont look good for them i fancy...

They had better make some winter signings! Their midfield is not getting it done, and even though Darren Bent is a excellent scorer, they just dont get him the ball efficently. Plus the defence is porus.
