Yes, I had window controls in the console of a car once. That was like the dumbest place in the world to put them.
I got very good at popping out the switch and unplugging the wires. I would then go to my high tech lab (aka my kitchen table) and CAREULLY take the swtich apart and clean it. I cleaned all the contacts with rubbing alcohol and q-tips. Be careful when taking it apart as those things have little springs in them and if the spring shoots off you will never find it.
Also, if it is an older car, go to the junk yard and find a complete switch (then you won't have to clean yours.). The junk yard method is a great learning tool also. It gives you a chance to experiment on how to take it out. Because if you take it out of the junk yard car and damage it, no biggie. Just move on to the next junk yard car and try a different method of removing that switch.
It is an easy fix. I became quite the pro at it until I sold that car.

I have worked on cars for years and I have seen this quite often. There are two ways that I would fix this, the first if they had a bad attitude was to replace the switch. The second if they had a goos attitude was to pull the switch apart and clean out the sticky stuff. As far as the cost goes, the switches run from $20.00 to over $100.00 depending on what kind of car you have. If your in Central Texas, I could help fix it. Good luck.

I did this about 10 years ago (company car).

Took the car to the dealer and paid $80 for having them take out about 8 screws from the door panel, remove the switch with those slip on clips, and 3 wires put in new switch, put panel back on - 30 minutes.

Swore if it ever happened again i would do it myself. Price has probably increased about 50% since then.

Order the part and do it your self with a buddy, buy the pizza.

OOOPs! You could try popping out the switch with a small screwdriver and take off the connectors at the back. Try drying it out with a hairdryer, clean the connectors and give it a try. Replacing them should be quite cheap but depends on car, Ford's are 8-10 quid each, but it won't cost hundreds.

Try spraying some WD40 into the switch & leave to soak for a few mins it may help. Then sue macs for not selling drinks in cups that can withstand hard acceleration.
