I always go out to the craft store and buy some ceramic ornaments, and then take them home and paint them myself. I have been doing this for a friend of mine ever since she was born, and I always put the year on it, and she has one for every single year that she has been alive, and thats 14 now! So, it is really a nice keep sake. Cheap and easy to do, and fun!

An heirloom quilt--crocheted heirloom afghan--ornaments that nay be passed down through families and etc. You may also think about long term investments such as a start to a college trust fund and add to it every year. A rag doll if the baby is a girl.
There are anumber of things you can make that would be appreciated in the long run by parents as well as the child. Talk to someone at an arts and crafts store or stop a grandma while shopping and ask away!!! Take care and blessings.

I'd get a tiny tree and trim it with twinkling lights and bright ornamental and play some Gene Autry Christmas music. I'd have that on the kitchen table and put him/her up there in their safe little seat and go about addressing Holiday cards, baking cookies, wrapping gifts and visiting with the baby as I go along. Happy Holidays.

My daughter was given a Taggie blanket when she was tiny, and she loved it. It's a baby blanket that has soft tags sewn all around the border... babies love to chew on these and play with the tags. You can buy a kit at just about any craft store!
