I often communicate in several languages.

On a regular PC I had no trouble with typing a unicode character such as a letter "e" with an accent. I would just hold down the Alt key and then type in the corresponding code.

I have two laptops and neither one of them allow me to press Alt + the code for the letter.

I've had to first type the character in Word and then cut and paste or go to Char Map and copy and paste the character. This slows me down considerably.

Any help would be much appreciated

Several Laptops that I've used have a key Labelled FN, Which when HELD DOWN turns some keys on the in to number pad, they'll be labelled in a different colour or Style.
