In terms of general purpose programming language
1. C++
2. Java
Not sure the guy on top knows about programming...Java a utility tool? You have to classify C/C++ and most other languages as utility tool then...ever heard of code re-usability?

Such question will not have a correct answer as the thing depends on the nedd and application.
1. For scientific applications, still no alternative to FORTRAN.
2. Object oriented programming , mostly for productivity suites, C/C++ whatever you call is easier.
3. I don't consider JAVA as all in one solution to anything and it is more like utility tool. Java will have major use in IT field(web design and others related tech things).

so, it really depends and we must admit that.

The list you give in your question are "structured languages". The first AI language was LISP and it is really an oldtimer. I remember seeing a demonstration in my university days whereby a LISP program acted like an artificial psychologist -- it could branch and make decisions asking the user questions, the user responded through the keyboard and the program would then make up questions.
