I was just kind of wondering about something concerning cold air intakes. One of the selling points that C A I manufactuers lean on is how they improve gas milage by taking in a higher cold air to gas ratio in the combustion chamber, or something to that effect. However it seems to me, and logic in general, that the supposed extra air rushing through the "mass airflow sensor" would send a message to the cars computer that there IS way too much air intering the combustion chamber and that it needs to be compinsated with an increase gas flow. Therefore actually resulting in lousy mpg's

it somewhat is an rather solid question...I see a brilliant style of those chilly air intake structures (on ebay quite) that are no greater advantageous than a brilliant dip on your wallet. a real chilly air intake will deliver "exterior air" into your intake tube, not warm below hood air. a brilliant style of the motor vehicle manufacturers do this chilly air intaking with the aid of ducting into the wheel nicely. you've considered the commercials showing not something yet a quick tube with a filter out on the tip drawing warm below hood air into your engine. What a waste....and picture approximately this once you notice a style of....if it would not usher in cooler exterior air on your inlet tube then it ain't a chilly air intake. Spend your money the place it is going to hold out a little solid...a ok&N filter out on your inventory airbox is a competent start up. this is not the super stuff that supplies you greater ability (till you have have been given bill Gates $$) however the small issues that upload up. BTW, chilly air is denser and consists of greater oxygen molecules than an equivalent quantity of warm air, giving your greater ability. wish this helps somewhat.

while some CAI's can increse gas mileage it is a minute difference, the main selling point is that a CAI allows for less restricted air flow through the engine, and allows cooler air to into the combustion chamber, allowing for a bigger bang, resulting in more HP, however, being as the bang is bigger, some would say that there is not as much gas needed to make that bang as big with hotter air, as far as the MAF sensor goes, it doesnt so much allow for more air to enter, just cooler less restricted air to enter

Cold air is denser and more oxygen rich, which enables the same amount of gas to be burned more completely, resulting in more bang for your buck.

the cooler the air the more condensed it is witch gives you more oxygen to burn witch gives you more bang for your gas buck
