He does not want to ban Christmas, just the symbols tied to American culture, such as Santa Claus, the Christmas tree, etc., in favor of the local symbols (Nativity, for example). I wish someone informs him and his fellow politicians that these symbols were brought from Europe, and most (if not all) the Christmas traditions in Latin America have foreign origin (Italian, German, Scandinavian, Spanish, etc). I heard some Venezuelans in TV who openly criticize this measure.

It is NOT true! People here should check their sources before making false statements.
Yes he wants to eliminate the capitalistic emblems which have nothing to do with Jesus' birthday but everything with buy! buy! buy!

Someone mentioned a poverty rate increase under Chavez which is totally wrong. Read the following:

"The household poverty rate declined sharply from 55.6 percent in the
beginning of 1997, as a result of the relatively strong growth (6.4 percent) of that year. It continued to decline, as the economy slowed to a standstill in 1998, and reached 42.8 percent in the first half of 1999, when President Chavez took office. There was some further decline in the poverty rate to 39
percent in 2001. But in 2002 poverty began to rise, surging to a peak of 55.1 percent for the second half of 2003. This was driven overwhelmingly by the oil strike (December 2002 – February 2003), which crippled the economy and caused a sharp downturn. Capital flight and political instability prior to the [capitalist]! oil strike, including an unsuccessful military coup in April of 2002, also contributed to a severe recession that saw GDP decline by 28.1 percent from the fourth quarter of 2001 to the first quarter of 2003." See web site below.

Just because Chavez is against capitalism as it is rampant in the (over)develloped world and especially in the U.S., (where Evangelicals(!!) call for his assassination!) does not mean that he doesn't know what Christmas is about.

Like all good liberal communists, he thinks America is the root of all evil. Notice how the poverty rate in his country went up 50% since he has taken office? When will people learn that there is a difference between SAYING you are a champion of the poor (liberals) and actually DOING something that will let the poor raise themselves up? Probably never, now that there are so many publik school graduates running around. Yes I did that on purpose.

He needs a little research. Christmas came from Europe, our ancestors just brought it here.

I would not be suprised if that jumping Bean would jump and smash the Christmas Tree. Surely because he had too much of his favorite booze.

I would think he would prefer to ban Christmas because he is really a communist.
