I have a medical condition, which means that in any given month, I have 5-15 days like that.
My solutions:
-Read favourite books, especially funny ones.
-Listen to favourite music and sing along.
-Clean the house, it uses up time and gets something accomplished, and you're not happy anyway, so what do you have to lose?
-Go for a brisk, angry walk, and burn off some of the hostility -- 'depression is anger, without energy' -- hate the weather; hate the streets; hate the grey sky -- or the blue one; you'd be surprised how well it works.
-Put the best linens on your bed, and put on a sexy nightie or dress, give your best mate a friend, and giggle about sex.
-Though you are not in the mood, if you have a partner or friend who's willing to pamper, seduce, and make love with you, you'll feel LOADS better!
-Write all your feelings down in a journal.
-Take a long, hot bubble-bath, shave your legs, spoil yourself.
-Get your hair done. It's amazing what a lift that can give you.
(WATCH OUT for the tendency to spend money and overeat -- they are serious problems when depressed!)
-If you're in work, smile at everyone, even though you don't feel like it. They'll smile back, and that feels good.
-DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL! Especially not alone. This way rehab lies. (Same for drugs, obviously).
- Have a good friend round to yours, and have a right old good whinge, she gets to whinge too, and you'll probably end up laughing.
- Do any hobbies you have, like cross-stich, or gardening, or learn one -- I spent YEARS knitting or crocheting blankets which I then gave to hostels for battered women, and homeless people. It was both something to do, and doing it for charity made me feel good.
- Watch a sad movie and have a really good cry.
- Write poetry, or song-lyrics (for your eyes only, if you like).
- Go to the library and get an introductory book on something you know absolutely nothing about. LEARNING can pull you out of that grey place really well.
- Watch a documentary or film about the real world, like 'Hotel Rwanda', and give yourself a dose of perspective on your problems.
- Go to the gym, if you have a gym membership. You won't want to go, but the exercise will make you feel better.
- Doodle.
- If you have kids, play with their toys. Make a fort with Legos; find out how much fun fingerpainting really is. If you don't have kids, keep some toys, for playing!
- Sleep for 24 hours. Sulk, pout, be down, until you're bored with yourself, and have to laugh.
- Masturbate. ORGASM is guaranteed to improve your mood.
- Go somewhere and pretend to be anyone other than yourself. If you don't have a car, and would be recognised, do it at home.
- Go to your House of Worship, if you have one, and seek spiritual guidance.
DON'T DROP OFF THE FACE OF THE MAP. IF YOU FEEL SUICIDAL, CONTACT EMERGENCY SERVICES OR YOUR LOCAL SUICIDE CRISIS LINE. TELL SOMEONE HOW YOU'RE FEELING.
You'd be amazed how much people, even total strangers, care.
I do.
Good luck.

First of all, you need to put everything in perspective....How bad is bad? Loss of your job, loss of a loved one, loss of home, no food to eat, illness, what is the bad in your bad day? If it's a bad day at work, if you didn't fired, then that's good. If it's a money issue, sit down and figure out how you can make some money, second job maybe, sell something you don't need..think. If your hungry they are always places that can help you get groceries and even shelter and clothing. Loss of a loved one, just hold precious the memories you have of them and remember to spend time and shower with love those who are still here. If you yourself are sick, then take time to take care of yourself, talk to your family doctor about your depression and find a support group. Be thankful we have so many resources here available to us in this country. If we were living somewhere else, we might have to suffer famine, war, repression, religious prosecution, lack of medical care,so many horrible things. So go home, take a hot shower and then lay down and take a nap or just relax. Things have a way of taking care of themselves if you just give them time. Remember, "God grant me the ability to change the things I can and give me ability to accept the things I can't".

This really is a tough one! One thing you can do is to go to a joke site such as http://www.comedycentral.com/jokes/index.jhtml and find some jokes you like to make you smile. Sometimes I go to myspace and look for funny videos. Anything that will take my mind off whatever it is that has me so weighted down that day. I actually started a myspace page of my own so that I can go in and work on that, play around with it, just to focus on something other than the things that get me down. It's a type of therapy and actually works!

Sorry you feel so bad, I guess different solutions for different people, but I always go out and take a long walk in the countryside with my dog and if I still feel bad on return, I have a huge bar of chocolate and go to bed early, next morning I have a different outlook on things.

I would probably grab some choclate turn on the tv curl up in a ball and cry until I fall asleep or just go to sleep it will make you feel relieved when you wake up or watch something funny on tv. It all depends on what made you depressed but thats what I would do.

Count your blessings we all have bad days which means we are alive to suffer them! If the roof leaks be thankful you have a roof. If the car breaks down it can be fixed and at least your mobile. in other words make sure your glass is half full not half empty.
In the words of the song "always look on the bright side of life de dum de dum......

Tis a tough one to break out of.
I tend to get home and put on some nice heavy music, it cleanses the soul. Then get on the phone to a friend and chat for as long as it takes.
I also tend to comfort eat, which is probably why I'm so fat, so I wouldn't recommend that one..!
