Why do men shut down emotionally when you end it?

I recently ended a relationship that had many red flags and issues that led to total disfunction in our relationship. I was dying emotionally so I ended it on the advice of my therapist at the time. The only communication I ever recieved after the ending was in a text message to my cell that he was sorry if he had caused me any pain. I ended it the night before we were suppose to go on vacation together for a week because I just couldn't do it anymore emotionally and I was under a lot of pressure from a lot people to end it. We never talked after that because things were said the night I ended it that hurt both of us terribly. Why do men shut down totally after an ending to a relationship? He refused to talk to me so I could explain why I did what I did. I sent several emails but he never responded. How can you just shut down all communication and never speak to that person again when all they want to do is explain why they did what they did? Made me feel he never loved me.

you have to understand that he was going through so much hurt that maybe he felt as if he couldnt interact with you anymore. break-ups are the worst if you really had something and then it ended. hes going through a lot right now. i understand that you are too but give him time. dont expect him to go ahead and be all peachy with you when you broke his heart. good luck hun. maybe he will come around and realize that theres a reason for everything.

BECAUSE IF YOU PLAY THAT YOU DO NOT HIM THEN HE IS GOING TO SHUNE YOU. HE CAN'T JUMP IN AND OUT OF YOUR LIFE EVERY TIME YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND. PAIN IN THE HEART FOR SOME MEN ME INCLUDED IS VERY HARD AND IF YOU CAN'T COMMIT TO HIM THEN WHY SHOULD HE EVEN TRY.

You didn't want to talk to him, you wanted to talk at him so you'd feel better.

For some reason, he wasn't interested.
