A thesis is a direct statement which means words. PROOF and illustration of your thesis can include pictures. (Just make sure to cite the pictures as references)

As long as the pictures have a purpose and you're not just putting something cute in to make someone smile. Cite them correctly if they are not yours, label them with titles like "Figure 1" "Picture 1" etc. Captions may be necessary for some. For examples, go to the library and pick up an academic journal in your field. See what they do and copy their format.
