First, 'ederly' people are a serious voting block in any election. Their turnout percentage is significantly higher than the general population. Which is part of the reason that 'sacred cows' like Social Security and Medicare are almost untouchable. The AARP and organizations like it are nothing but huge lobby groups to insure the ederly get "theirs". Younger people will soon realize that the previous generation has left them a huge debt and an almost insurmountable financial obligation. In about 20-30 years or less, only 2 will be working to support 1 on Social Security.
And like it or not, the Social Security system is not solvent, Congress spent the money, and the funds come out of the general fund, ie, current taxes.
