Heterocyclic compounds (like the alkaloids) are organic ring compounds where one atom in the ring is not carbon, but another element such as nitrogen.

Yes they are heterocyclic, they must contain nitrogen but not neccesarliy on the ring itself, the rings could be: pyrolle,pyridine,pyrimidine,etc..
