I just purchased a new computer ,but I don't want to get rid of my other computer because its still in updated and working condition. The new one is going to be in another room of my house. We currently have DSL and I want them both to be able to run on the same service. How can I do this?

Buy a wireless router and PCI card for your other computer. Costs around $100

Yes, buy a cable/dsl router. It doesn't matter which brand, all the major manufacturers make 'em (Netgear, Linksys, D-Link)

You just plug your DSL line into the router's WAN port, and connect both computers to the router. Nowadays for about $10 more you can get one that's also wireless.

Great question, and your answer would be a router. Whether you use it for hard wire or wireless (don't know if your PC's are laptops or desktops), the router will allow you to have multiple PC's on the same internet connection.

The router will have directions on how to set it up, and if you still have questions or would like to learn more, visit the home networking information at:

Good luck, and have fun!

The easiest and more efficient way is to purchase a router.

You can also route one computer through another (go to "my computer"--networking) but that isn't best way as the host computer has to be up and running for the other computer to work.

Just get a router.

To start the Network Setup Wizard, click Start, click Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections. Under Common Tasks, click Network Setup Wizard.

Let's be very stingy about cash here.
Buy an extra NIC
Install this extra NIC to the computer connected to the modem
Give it a static ip of 192.168.0.1
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
gateway as 192.168.0.1
primary DNS as 192.168.0.1
secondary DNS as 4.2.2.2
Get a cross over ethernet cable
On the second computer
Give it a static ip of 192.168.0.2
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
gateway as 192.168.0.1
primary DNS as 192.168.0.1
secondary DNS as 4.2.2.2
you should now be connected to the internet from the second computer

You will need a router. I use LinkSys. Also NetGear is good. The router companies have good tech support and they will help you set it up.
