I am TTC and am seeing a doc. who does have me on Prenatals, and Metformin right now, I dont have a period, so everyother month (for now) they have me take progesterone to induce a period, and i am not ovulating on my own by jan, they will start me on chlomid, those that are familar, I have what they call the Pearl necklace, or Ring of Pearls, in my ovaries. I know PCOS never goes away and I will never have a normal period.

The hirutism is generally caused by the excess male androgens in your body. As your hormones start to level out, so should your hair growth. In the mean time, there are commercial hair removal techniques (shaving/waxing/dipilitories), and you can ask your doctor if he/she has any other suggestions on how to deal with the extra hair. If you're not TTC, going on the pill *might* help, since it will help regulate your hormones. I know glucophage is a common treatment for PCOS also, but I'm not sure if it will help with the hair.

Oddly enough, when I was diagnosed, the only symptom I had was the irregular periods due to not/irregularly ovulating. (The ultrasound of my ovaries was a trip.) That being the case, and since my doctor was SO unhelpful, it was really hard to come to grips with the fact that this was what was wrong with me. I'd look at the list of indicators and think "how can this be me?" I did notice once I started on the clomiphene that the hair growth I do have kind of leveled out, and I seem to have less peach fuzz on my face than I used to now that I'm pg.

Good luck.

The hairiness is caused by the fact that your body is producing more testosterone (male hormone) than is usual (for a woman without PCOS)

My mum in law and sis in law both have PCOS and both have had this problem, also oily skin, weight gain etc.

As for "having normal periods" most PCOS sufferers never do - because their hormone levels do not rise high enough every month to release an egg. There are medications which can be given to regulate your hormones and also to help you conceive a baby but PCOS isn't something that just "goes away". You need to discuss this with your doctor.

As for having children, well my mum in law had 3 although she was told that her PCOS would mean she'd never conceive so it can be done.

I has PCOS and have had many cyst removals. I had my left ovary removed as it was loaded with cysts and i was taking diaformin.A diabetic drug. My POCS has given me diabetes any way so it was helping in two ways. 3 months after the removal of my left ovary and some borderline tumors I fell naturally with Declan he is now 31/4.
But I had to inject insulin during the pregnancy as diaformin or metformin was not "safe".
since the ovary removals and my pregnancy's I have been as regular as clock work. And they tell me that lasering part of the ovary sometimes works to stimulate it in to ovulating regularly. So i put the op down to helping kick the remaining ovary into gear.

After trying since declan was 6 months we had all but given up. And after the removal of some tumors and 3/4 of the remaining cyst filled ovary!
I fell pregnant 5 months after the op, with 1/4 of an ovary left, with Auryn (welsh for longed for or wanted child) he is now 19 weeks. In falling with Auryn the only help I had was a wonderful Naturopath. Some of the herbal stuff was gross. But I lost 10 kg lowered my sugar levels and increased my fertility. Don't listen to all the negative hype about POCS. Stay Positive and I can assure you that Miracles can happen.

I have pcos. My doctor told me that I might never get rid of pcos. He did say that once I got pregnant that I may not have problems getting pregnant again. As for as the hair problem, you will just have to take means of getting rid of it. After they started me on fertility drugs my periods went from 75 days to 36 days, but I still am not ovulating.

I suggest you see a doctor. They could put you on estrogen drugs(i.e. most likely birth control) to help balance your hormones. If you are trying to get pregnant, they could help with fertility drugs. Your body does produce more estrogen and other hormones when pregnant, so it might help balance it out.
