Because the Government signed up to the EU Human Rights Act. Its being exploited by greedy "human rights" lawyers - like Cherie Blair, who just happens to be married to the Prime Minister - who make millions defending ludicrous claims, funded by Legal Aid. Like all EU laws, this government follows it to the letter. Oh no I forgot, there's one they have rejected. The EU ruled that duty only had to be paid on alcohol and tobacco in the country of purchase. This meant people could buy booze and cigs over the internet very cheaply from somewhere like Latvia. But because it would mean that Gordon f*****g Brown couldnt get his grubby hands on the duty that would have been imposed in the UK, so he could flush it down the pan, he stamped his foot and as a result we cant do this now.

Its because, unlike USA where life is something like 135 years for rape, we cannot see the point in keeping people incarcerated for serious crimes because its not on the doorstep of politicians or the legal system. They are totally out of touch with the real world.

Problem, Reaction, Solution!
How do you get an entire nation to willingly give up centuries of freedom and liberty and have this free nation demand to be turned into a fascist police state?
1. Give them the human rights act.
2. Abuse the human rights act, by refusing to enforce laws, by giving in to criminals demands under their human rights by giving heroin to criminals (etc....)
3. Wait for the inevitable outcry,
4. Repeal the human rights act removing ALL human rights.
hey presto, the entire population has just welcomed fascism!
The answer? a common sense bill of rights that applies only to non convicted, innocent citizens, not convicted criminals.

Because it was originally created to protect the aristocracy not the citizens.
It has and is resistant to change and has become a dinosaur.
