Yes! that is very normal, I had the same thing. Don't worry, I was scared about it too, but it wont hurt the baby! I would talk to your midwife/dr about what you can use for the constipation, I think citracel is ok, but I would call just to make sure.... don't worry most women get constipated while pregnant. Good luck!

Yes, I have seen several patients who became constipated during pregnancy. It usually has to do with their diet. And I have also had some ask me if they strained to have a bowel movement would the baby come out. And no you will not push the baby out. But to keep from getting hemorrhoids or other digestive problems. I usually suggest a high fiber diet. Or a Fiber supplement.
However I do advise patients that are with in 2 weeks of delivery to not strain will having a bowel movement. But to use a mild laxative if they become constipated.

hope this helps answer your question.

Don't worry the baby won't come out until it is good and ready. I believe most pregnant women are constipated, they get backed up from eating different and have many changes to your body. All I can say is, the pregnancy should be fine, but wait until after the pregnancy, then true pain comes, from not sleeping, heavy blood flow, serious cramping, and engored breasts, I wish I could of stayed pregnant. It hurts a lot afterwards

You could talk to your doctor about some natural ways to get rid of constipation and not have to push so hard. It's possible to be constipated during pregnancy, specially if you're taking an iron supplement. So talk to your doctor, trust me, doctors don't know the meaning of the word "gross".

Constipation is normal throughout pregnancy, and even after pregnancy. Take your multi vitamin and iron as directed by your doctor. You can not "push out" your baby until labor begins. The baby is held in place by the placenta, umbilical cord, and even a mucus plug at the opening of the cervix. I think you(or whoever is having these thoughts) should read up more on pregnancy and anatomy.

Yes, many women experience constipation. Drink plenty of fluids, eat fiber, walking helps. You should not bear down hard even if you aren't pregnant, contributes to hemorrhoids, fissures. Prunes, prune juice help tremendously.
