I don't think this particular fish is a flower horn (distinguished by the large "bubble" protrudence on it's head), but I think it is closer to being a Red Oscar...oscars are more common..they are related to jack dempseys, sunfish and chichlids. They DO eat smaller fish, but are one of the more "affectionate" fish. I had a couple oscars, and they were very comical. They often like to rearrange their surroundings, and have a deep love of freeze-dried bloodworms.

I've included the link to Animal Planet's website guide to this breed of fish.

It's an oscar. They come in a variety of colors and sizes, but can grow to be very large. Here's a good place to read more about them: http://www.aquariumfish.net/catalog_pages/cichlids_neotropical/oscars.htm.

It looks like a red oscar to me. And yes, they will eat any fish they can fit in their mouth.
