Since i have developed the concept I would like to protect my idea from all the people that I discuss this with. As an example when I am talking to a software developer how can I guarantee that they will not steal my idea or sell it to someone ? How can I protect my intellectual property ?

Do a contract with the sw developer, go to a lawyer who specializes in this kind of stuff, so he/she can help you with all the tools so people won't steal your stuff.

Also, remember that someone in this world is devising the same idea you have right now, so time is essential to put your project into a "go" rather than a "hold".

It depends what it is...

You could try to patent it
Or register it as a business

But in order to do that, it must be more than an idea.

You need to develop the idea on paper and be able to explain in details how you going to make it work.

Ideas are great.
I had one too. I thought it could not fail and would make me a millionnaire overnight. I did struggle 6 years with it before giving it up.
The Internet is the toughest market in the world because most people want everything for free. Most people don't understand the business side of it either. And you are pretty much on your own.

The fact that you are here asking the question tells me that you don't know much about it either and that you don't have that much money to invest in the project.

Before you start paying big bucks to a developer to build your site, you better be sure of yourself.

With my project, I taught myself everything I needed to know and developed the website myself. So I did not lose money. Just a lot of time where I could have been doing something else.

Get a lawyer to draw up some copyright info, and then have them draw you up a non-disclosure document saying your developer can't sell your stuff to anyone or take it as his own idea.

Make sure you have your developer sign some stuff before he does any work so you don't loose him on his own to develop your idea and cash in.

In English law there is no property in an idea. You need to have a formulae or product or trademark or creation before you can invoke patent law.

You need to have everyone you share it with sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement, in advance.

You cannot copyright ideas. You can copyright the "form of material expression" though.
