In Outlook, simply turn off the Navigation Pane. You'll have to double-click on it to display it. Otherwise, if you simply select it, you'll be able to delete it with the DEL key or the right mouse button.

This is especially useful in the Junk Email folder of Outlook 2003 since your Navigation Pane preferences is kept by folder. Therefore, even if your Navigation Pane is open in your Inbox, it will not be displayed in your Junk Email folder, giving you a chance to delete it without opening it.

install the latest software for Yahoo or MSN messages and tick those boxes you do not want to open. Otherwise you can try drag and drop, but this is slow if you have a lot of mail. If its junk mail then adjust your email filters.

It depends on what email program you are using. You can do this with most: Right click the message you want to delete. This will show you several options. Then choose "Delete".

When you see a "Mail" there is a small box next to it.
Click this box and a tick will appear. Press to Delete and your Mail will be sent to oblivion.

Good luck..

If you're using a web mail program, it's easy to delete first.

If you're using Outlook/Outlook Express or another program that allows you to preview the message when you click once on it, you can deactivate the instant preview in your "Options" menu.

By the way, it is safe to view context of massage without risking infection as long as HTML is disabled in mailbox option:

Yahoo mail through browser: “Option” (link in top right part of Yahoo mailbox) >> “General preferences” >> “Block HTML…”. If using mail client, change similarly named option in client’s preferences.

Viewing mail with HTML disabled will kill graphics of letters and change it to plain text. HTML enabled is not safe because it allows inserting malicious code into letter’s header which in some circumstances could be executed by viewing maliciously constructed massage alone.

It is also safe to download letters attachment even IT’S NOT SAFE TO OPEN THEM – at least not before ensuring they don’t contain malwares.

As in live usually there is also some need at one time or another for accepting files send by e-mail, as for instance pictures sent from friends. As a safety policy in my opinion it is always good to scan ALL received files (even ones received from trusted sources) as friends could potentially be compromised by malware, and all sent form them files could be infected without them ever knowing.

To accept files received form trusted sources via e-mail in safe manner:

1.Download attachment on your PC (press: “Download” in download dialog – DO NOT PRESS ‘run” or “open”). Downloading file alone cannot infect you, only opening it could do so. At the same time be however extremely suspicious of all files which have double extensions as: “file.zip.exe” for instance. In example above file has two extensions “.exe” and “.zip”. Normally file should have only one extension: “file.exe” or “file.zip”
2.Once downloaded, right click file and scan it with all anty malware programs which you have installed on your PC (scanning options are usually continently added to right click menu by most anty-malware softwares).
3.When done upload file to these two free online scanners and scan them again. Links allows scanning file with multiply AV engines by uploading file just once:

Keep in mind that this policy is sufficient ONLY to files received from trusted sources. Potentially some very new malwares (often referred as ZERO DAY EXPLOITS) could be not yet sufficiently known and/or understood when received via e-mail and subsequently not added to AV virus detection rules at the time when attachment is received. In such a scenario malware could be totally undetectable even when scanned with many reputable AV scanners.
