I sure eat my own share and never had a problem. You should always satisfy a craving in my opinion, but not TOO much as you probably have some extra baby weight to be working off you if you're like me. Of course breastfeeding should help tremendously in that department. Well, there are studies showing that too much chocolate is bad for YOUR body because of something in it that is bad for you (lol, I never retain the details of all these articles I read - just the main pts). I dont know of any reason not to indulge yourself a bit though. And I know, this is considered taboo by most, but you CAN have a glass or two of alcohol and STILL nurse your baby, you just have to wait a little while before nursing your baby again after drinking. I tried to share this tidbit with others on here last week, and even though I had the links of medical studies backing me up I still gots thumbs down and booed by a bunch of people. Holidays are upon us, and even us nursing mothers are allowed a glass of Champagne or wine if we choose to have one. I'll copy and paste a bit of a nice article from a breastfeeding website that talks about both chocolate and alcohol (just in case you were wondering about that too). See the link below for the full thing.
Alcohol: Holiday time means holiday parties and nursing moms may be unsure about how festive they can be. Alcohol, in moderation, is fine for a breastfeeding mother. So cheers! A glass or two of wine or champagne is okay!
Restricted diets: There are oodles of claims about what mothers can and cannot eat while breastfeeding. Remember, women all over the world-with vastly different diets-breastfeed. There is little scientific evidence supporting claims that certain foods cause gas in the baby of affect a mother's milk supply. At holiday time, sugar and chocolate abound, so don't deny yourself treats.

hello fellow chocaholic!!! LOL!!! Firstly, congrats on the baby. I ate pretty much whatever I wanted. There are things like alcohol and stuff that you SHOUOLDN'T eat while pregnant, but generally, you will have to decide on your own how/if it affects your baby. I had to watch gassy foods...onions, peppers, broccoli....those things tended to make my baby gassy too. Other than that, I drank chocolate milk and ate chocolate. My sister ate whatever she wanted all the time, and sometimes made me wonder wny she didn't get that her baby was fussy. You only ate 1/2 a pound of onion rings sis...LOL!!!! I think if it doesn't bother your baby after nursing, then go ahead. I've never heard of it reducing your milk supply or anything, and I have 4 kids!

Chocolate isnt bad but youll notice a change in the baby He or she might get extremely gassy and will have a change in sleep patterns because of the extra sugar and caffene if your baby gets gassy maybe change from dark chocolate to milk chocolate

no chocolate will not reduce your breastmilk but it would make your breast milk a bit to sweet even though it has iron which is supposed to help you but your should keep your chocolate to a small piece a day and try drinking hot chocolate instead it workes for my mum who had a baby 21 months ago trust me XX

You can only eat a little bit a day. What you should really be eating a lot of is Ice cream because you need lot of sugar and drinks lot of milk. chocolate is really only good for the heart but only a little bit.

HI there. Caffeine can lower your milk supply, but unless you are eating POUNDS of it, you should be just fine. The heavy fats involved are good for the baby!
Good luck to you!
