I feel so bad for lesson ponies who are just thrown out into their little muddy paddocks with mud up to their knees,no blankets in the winter & no decent shelter. When it's dinner time, their hay and grain is just thrown out to them, & the people who feed them are usually paid for it and dont know the first thing about colic or colic symptoms, so the horse is practiacally floundering on the ground before anyone notices somethings wrong. Also, they're just put in a pasture together without even thinking about if the horses are going to get along. But then you go to the same barn and see the big fancy $50,000 horses who get quadrouple blanketed, the best feed and care, & big cushy stalls with plenty of shavings. Now you can post your opinion about this as you please, but i will say right here and now,THOSE LESSON PONIES WORK THEIR BUTTS OFF & ARE WORTH MUCH MORE THAN THOSE FANCY SHOW HORSES! Something has to be done, any suggetions? Please keep in mind, not all lesson barns are like this.

i havent really seen that, but if they have no shelter and are undernourished, it is a matter for the spca, and should be reported if you think they are being mistreated. if you get into it before the spca, you could be in trouble. but if the spca does nothing, then you should say something.

The treatment those school ponies is abominable and cruel. I would get any animals that you own out of there, and find another barn at which to take lessons. It's not good to hang around a barn when the people running it don't know Jack about appropriate care, and the recognition of health problems, no matter how minor, let alone the serious stuff, like colic!
If it is more expensive at another barn, remember' you get what you pay for. A horse can be a sizable investment, and vet bills make it even worse! So, GET OUT AS SOON AS YOU CAN!. And, tell those idiots WHY you are leaving, and that you plan to spread the word!!

If you are going to a barn that does this, then confront the owner, saying you are worried. Or tell someone you trust. If it is really bad, then go to your local humane society or RSPCA. I think it is totally unfair to these poor horses/ponies, who, like you said, work so hard to get so little. If you are going to confront the owner, make sure you have a back up stable to go to if you get kicked out. The stable where I go riding is really good, they have 40 acres of fields for the horses/ponies, and 102 more for trails and extra pastures. If you live in Kingston or Westport Ontario, I would suggest Westwinds Ranch, that is where I go. You are definately right, these horses/ponies are worth alot more then those fancy show horses

1 Life is = to any other life. Sorry to say not all people feel that way. It seems we humans have choices.. and we do.. but not all of us wind up rich and successful nor care to chase riches. So I think people should try and consider their animal's own well fare more often and try to figure out how much you can afford to take care of.
