Gibson i think are the best. but alot of blues is done on fender guitars. strats have a distinctive blues sound that you cant get from a Gibson. but if you know how to play, you can make either sound good. its all a matter of personal preference. some people prefer fender over Gibson. the type of guitar you play depends on the style of music you like and what sound you want from your own guitar. and i like Gibson's. i have 2 Gibson Les Paul's, 1Gibson S.G. and 1 Gibson Firebird.

If you can afford it, buy the Gibson, not the Gibson/Epiphone, a cheaper version of the Gibson. But it still depends on what you're playing and what you're doing when you play. Gibson makes great guitars, but you can't beat Fender basses and some of their guitars. The Strat has been an industry standard for both rhythm and lead guitar work since the late '50's. Nearly every touring band is using Fender basses. You can't beat their clarity at both low and high volume. They're also the preferred instrument in recording studios because of the clarity.

Overall, I prefer most Gibsons over Fenders, but I feel that Squire guitars more accurately replicate the feeling and sound qualities of a Fender guitar than Epiphone does a Gibson.

But really it depends on what kind of a sound you are trying to get. It is really difficult to thin down a Gibson to get a good Fender sound, where it isn't tough to fatten up a fender.

I like them both...I have one of each....
Epiphone Les Paul , and a Squire Strat....

The eppi sounds just like a Gibson Les Paul ...nice fat full bodied tone...and the Strat is a nice cleaner sound that holds the notes longer...

Personally, I dig the Fender more, but they're both great.
