Okay, so for Christmas, we always go to my mom's side of the family in Indiana, which is about an hour and a half away from where we live, Chicago. So my mom's family wants us to stay there from the 23rd to about th 27th. We have two dogs. One we have had for 6 years, and one, we have had for less than one year, and that this is his first Christmas. My mom's uncle does not like dogs, and said we can only bring them if we take proper care of them. That will be super hard because they are house trained. We could leave them in the kennel, except for the newer dog is extreemly attatched to me, and he gets very upset when he doesn't see me for a while. The other dog could care less if he didn't see us for a while. The older one is a Maltese, and the younger one is half Chihuahua and half Yorkie. And this is the Yorkie's first Christmas with a familly. What should I do?

Kennel them or shoot the uncle.

Are you staying with the uncle? If not, it's not really his say so anyways. If you are, you should respect that he doesn't like dogs and kennel both. Although you hate to leave the dogs for Christmas, they don't know the concept anyways. They can get extra loving and gifts when you return. If it bothers you that bad, don't stay as long. Cut it a few days short. We love our dogs and hate to leave them while vacationing, but when taking them on trips, they are thrown out of their normal routines anyways and can act out. When they do that around your family, it can just cause undo stress on you and your family always worrying about what the dogs are doing to your family's house. And if they want them to stay outside when they are used to being indoors, that stresses the dogs out too. If you leave them at a kennel, they will still be taken care of and be out of the unsensitive uncle's hair. Either way, good luck and have a....stressless holiday. If there is such a thing...

I don't know how big a Maltese is but if it is the same size as the other one, bring them both. Your mother wants you there for Christmas, the dogs are part of your family. If it becomes a problem you can always cut the trip short. (did you mean that the dogs aren't house trained? cuz you said "are" house trained) Just bring along a good cleaner and deodorizer, the kind mom likes. Happy Christmas and Joy to all.

Kennel one and take a cage for the smaller dog. For when the uncle is around.
