The UK is supposed to be battered tonight by the worst storm of the year. It could be close to a hurricane as it gets here with winds over 80mph. What will you be doing to keep safe?

There is always that possibility that roofs will disappear. I hope my satellite dish don't take off.

Not over here,we shouldn't because in Georgia in the Southeast U.S.A where i live at 5:02 PM there's not a cloud in the sky.You should move to
higher ground and get into a sturdy building and be prepared for
flash flooding, power outages, and even isolated tornadoes.

LOL, the word is "batten" not button. It means to-
Prepare for trouble, as in Here comes the boss--batten down the hatches. This term originated in the navy, where it signified preparing for a storm by fastening down canvas over doorways and hatches (openings) with strips of wood called battens. [Late 1800s]

I hope that you guys will be ok. Listen for the news reports. Keep fresh batteries and food and water in case you lose electricity.

If your hatches are only held in place with buttons I would be afraid, very afraid.

Otherwise I'd get a nice take-away and a bottle of fizz.

PS the phrase is 'batten down the hatches'
