I'm 17 years old and I act like a 7 year old. I don't drive, I don't work, and I'm not even ready for graduation. I don't wanna grow up but I don't have no choice. Can you give me some pointers on how to grow up?

It sounds like you are confused on what you want. However, I will still answer this question. Be sure and print this page out, because at some point you will be thrust into the real world, like it or not, and hopefully everyone's answers will help you survive;

1. Learn to drive. Take a Driver's Ed class and get your license.
2. Get a job. Once you get your license, drive to area restaurants, or retail shops and apply. FYI...you can make pretty good money being a VERY good waitress at a nice restaurant.
3. Enroll in a local Junior College. This will get you started on your "higher" education without thrusting you into full-blown college life too quickly.
4. Move into your own place. Get a good, trustworthy friend to be your rooommate so it won't be too expensive.
5. Make a list of professions you might want to be when you grow up. This practice will begin a process called "setting objectives". In the next year, put some serious thought behind this list, because you will need to start taking college courses that are specific to a profession. You'll need to know what that profession is so you're not wasting your money.
6. Make friends with people who are your age, working and going to college. This begins a process called "networking".
7. Keep some of that "inner child". It makes life much more fun in more ways than one.

This should get you started. Good luck!

Well, graduation is sort of like a birthday -- you wait and wait, but when it actually comes about, you're still the same person living basically the same life. And I think driving is a bigger rite of passage if you live in the suburbs -- in the city you can do a lot without driving. Anyway, I would definitely suggest going to college (but not a "party school", too easy to get waylaid into playing 24-7): it's not so different in that you're still going to school 5 days a week, but it's a nudge into adulthood in that you're living more on your own, finding your own meals, and more responsible for yourself. But not as grown up as having to be responsible for a job and an apartment and light bulbs and electric bills and taxes and health insurance.
Also, I think growing up is a lot about figuring out who you are and what's important to you -- and the best way to do that is by learning what's out there, and how it feels to you. Which leads us back to learning (and college). . .
I don't think you're alone in not wanting to grow up. I remember desperately wanting to be *older* because I thought all that freedom would bring instant happiness. But what really happens is that you end up *feeling* 12 or 18 forever, and wondering how you ended up looking and living like a 35-yr-old.
