I would call the doctor to be safe. My daughter was oozing after it seemed to have completely dried up (I never used alcohol though). I took her in and it actually came off at the doctors office. Then they applied some sort of liquid (I don't remember what it was or I'd tell you) to seal it. Apparently it was all dried up but still attached so it was getting snagged on her clothes/diapers and that's what made it bleed.

The use of alcohol on cord stumps is rarely suggested anymore, Alcohol actually keeps the cord mosit and delays healing.
I would suggest you let the cord dry up naturally, keeping diapers folded away from the area etc.
Now, let's talk blood amounts. If it's just a little bit of dark or dried blood that's normal. If it's more then a tsp of fresh blood, I would go to the doctor.

with my first i was told to use alcohol on it and it worked fine, that was 4 yrs ago...just over two weeks ago i had my second child and was told that i didnt need to use it because they did studies on it and found out that either way you treat it it still takes the same amount of time to heal so they said just to leave it alone...so last wednesday i had to bring my son to see his doctor for a check up and i too had noticed blood,a small amount coming from were the cord feel off and i asked his doctor about it...he said if i wanted i could use some alcohol on it to dry it up and to clean it so i did and it doesnt bleed as much now...but either way it will heal...remember its just like having an open wound...if something rubs on it enough its bound to make it crack and bleed a bit...just fold the front of the diaper down as to were it isnt rubbing up against it...it will be fine.

Always follow your Doctors' instructions. The first question is what is he really telling me about my little baby. Be gentle and loving with your baby. Nature (God) is kind. "It is not nice to fool Mother nature" Don't over clean the area. It may make it raw and irritated. We placed a raisin in our second baby's belly button and taped it there. Change it daily till you have a nice "innie" belly button.
Caution if it looks herniated or unnatural to you, remember you are the Mom and have that intuitive ability to know what to do. DO IT!
You should always feel free to talk to your doctor or maybe you may need to find one who will listen to you and your concerns.
Most of all enjoy your baby, love, care, cuddle. It is the most precious time of Life.
Your question was a wonderful sharing of a mother's love.
For all who share this response; It is our desire to send our love and blessing and I am sure you will be a comfort to many.

Probably is just a little blood taht didn;tdry, it's nothing serious, the probelm is that the scab fel or hasn't for yet. Contact your babies pediatriian and ask its okay to cover it up and what you can use. Just be sure.

the blood is normal. I called my dc to make sure it was okay when I brought my son home. He said its normal. Did they tell you to clean it out with a q-tip. I would still do that (make sure the q-tip is wet). Everything will be fine. Rember not to get it wet. Good luck and congrats

my baby had to eventually use silver nitrate on her belly button because her belly button just kept bleeding. it wasnt very much but her pediatrition wanted to dry it up. her cord fell off very early though like at 1 week it fell off. just check with her dr. they may want you to bring her in so they can take a look at it and treat it if necissary. Good luck best wishes with your new little one!!!!
