No, it's not true. The echo is difficult to detect, however, because ducks usually quack twice or more in quick succession, so it's hard to tell the difference between the quack and the echo.

I took My duck to a canyon to try it out, and the damn duck decided then it was mad at me for taking him out he wouldn't quack for me.
